The
Debbie Romano Memorial Foundation
"Make
a Child Smile"
The Debbie
Romano Memorial Foundation was founded in 1996 by family and friends to
honor the memory of Debbie (Mulloy) Romano, who died from a pediatric
brain tumor at age 29. The foundation, which works closely with the pediatric
neuro-oncology clinic at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, strives
to keep the memory of Debbie alive by gathering family, friends and members
of our community to help make a child smile by reaching out and touching
lives the way Debbie always did.
Our primary
goal is to raise funds for an endowment at St. Christopher's that will
support a Chronic Care Coordinator specifically dedicated to helping these children
and their families to cope with the overwhelming emotional and financial
burdens associated with a cancer diagnosis. Thanks to your generous support
of the Debbie Romano Smiles for Miles Event, we have raised approximately
$600,000 towards our goal and $55,000 towards the immediate needs of the
children currently being treated for brain tumors and neurological diseases
at St. Christopher's. Your support has allowed St. Christopher's to purchase
a specialized x-ray scanner and establish a neuro-oncology library at
the hospital. And thanks to you, these children have new videos to watch
while receiving chemotherapy, and have enjoyed holiday events and trips
to the Philadelphia Zoo, Camden Aquarium and Phillies games.
We thank
you for your generous support, and continued dedication to this most worthy
cause.
The Debbie
Romano Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit 501 C 3 organization.
